Eczema

Eczema is a general term used to describe a group of skin diseases in which skin becomes swollen, irritated, and itchy. Eczema affects both adults and children and is often triggered by changes in weather, or interaction with substances that come in contact with your skin such as soaps, detergents, cosmetics, jewelry, or sweat.

Preventive Tips

Eczema treatment should be addressed by your dermatologist.  Follow these measures to help maintain good skin health and lessen flare–ups:

  • Avoiding taking long, hot baths. Try to limit bathing to 5 minutes with warm water and a mild soap.
  • Apply a good moisturizer every day right after bathing.
  • Avoid contact with soaps, perfumes, detergents, or jewelry that irritates your skin.
  • Wash your new clothes before you wear them.
  • Keep your fingernails short to prevent scratching.
  • Practice good skin hygiene habits.
